Kitchen Renovation 2016
In 2016, we completed an effort to renovate our kitchen. Here is some information you may find useful about the renovation.
How old is the kitchen? The entire section of the church campus that contains the kitchen was constructed in 1928. When the renovation started, there were vestiges of wiring and plumbing from that era as well as remnants of remodels from the 1940s and 1970s. There was an upgrade including new windows, refrigeration, dishwasher and stainless sinks in 2010.
Which church members were involved in the renovation? Bonnie Anderson was the driving force in first mentioning this project, garnering grants from UTO and the diocese. Charles Sajewski and another member were involved with the contractors and the day to day progress. The initial committee also included John Meyer who provided drawings and information.
What were some of the problems with the old kitchen?
What are some of the things the renovated kitchen features that the old kitchen didn't have?
What are some of the best things about the renovated kitchen?
What was the purpose of the renovation?
Did the renovation meet its budget? As with any large program, the budget was widely exceeded mostly due to structural and plumbing issues as well as added unforeseen necessities. This has placed some stress on the finances of the church, but hopefully we will overcome that with the new potential income.

What were some of the problems with the old kitchen?
- A roof leak had been taken care of before the kitchen renovation was begun with the installation of a new membrane roof system.
- The old kitchen did not meet any updated codes. This included the hood system, electrical and plumbing systems.
- The church ministries were not allowed to cook in the old kitchen because it was not a licensed and certified area for food preparation. Food prepared elsewhere and brought into the church for warming was allowed.
- Plugging a few electrical items caused the breakers to trip.
- No matter how many times it was cleaned, it always looked worn, dirty and tired!
What are some of the things the renovated kitchen features that the old kitchen didn't have?
- New gas stoves and convection ovens
- New hood system
- New air handling system
- Fire extinguishing system
- Upgraded plumbing
- Upgraded electrical
- LED lighting
- New exit door to the fire escape
- New heavy duty flooring
- Increased storage areas
What are some of the best things about the renovated kitchen?
- The kitchen provides a venue for food preparation for the ministries of All Saints'.
- The kitchen provides a venue for outside renters to use the facility.
- The kitchen provides an upgraded and efficient flow for its users.
- The safety factors for users have been greatly improved in the cases of food handling and the general safety of the users.
What was the purpose of the renovation?
- It gives the feeding ministries an updated facility to more efficiently serve the guests at the Community Breakfast and the children of Bound Together.
- Because of the kitchen, Bound Together will begin a program called Kids' Cafe. This will teach children to cook and introduce them to good nutritional practices.
- All Saints' is better able to offer the kitchen to other faith based communities such as Catholic Hispanic Services for their cooking and nutritional programs.
- The kitchen will be made available to outside users such as food trucks, caterers, bakers, and all types of events (weddings, funerals, meetings, and so on) who will provide a stream of income so that our ministries and the upkeep of the church can continue and grow. Two event coordinators are now working to inform potential users of this facility. To learn more about events at All Saints', view our Calendar page.
