Welcome - What to Expect on Sunday
Whether you found All Saints' Episcopal Church on the internet or just driving by the church, your first impression is most likely, "What a beautiful building!" It really is a lovely edifice with magnificent stained glass windows. Its presence has a marvelous history, dating back to 1837, and is the first Episcopal Church in Oakland County.
Now you have opened the door and stepped into the building on a Sunday for either the 8:30am or the 10:30 service. At the 8:30am worship people sit in the chancel area. You will find a bulletin on the railing at the top of the steps, please take a seat in the choir stalls. The service begins with the ringing of a bell. At the 10:30am service ushers will greet you with a warm hello and make sure you are given a service bulletin so you will be able to easily follow along during the service. People are bustling around with informal greetings to one another, the choir members are busy dressing in their robes, and the rector, deacon, and other participants are lining up for the processional into the sanctuary as the service is about to commence. After the service has concluded, we offer a coffee hour to everyone in the Rose Kneale Room, adjacent to the sanctuary. If time permits for you that morning, we would be very happy to have you join us. We have prepared welcome bags for all newcomers which members of our hospitality team would like to present to you. Included will be informational brochures about many different aspects of our life together as a faith community. All Saints' parishioners are very friendly people who will enjoy extending a welcome to you. We hope that you will feel that welcome and want to return again. All Saints Episcopal Church is completely accessible. Gratefully acknowledging the heritage of our ministry in this neighborhood, we have carefully and thoughtfully made the building completely accessible with elevators, bathrooms, open space, meeting rooms, audible enhancement and worship seating. Worship in the Sanctuary honors our priority for welcome and inclusion to all by making sure that Eucharist is available in two locations in the Sanctuary. The All Saints Community is abundantly enriched by members with physical challenges. Together, we all make sure that comfort, hospitality and accessibility needs are addressed and remain as a high priority for All Saints. |

Coffee Hour
|
Our main purpose is to extend a warm welcome to visitors and to inform newcomers about life at All Saints'. We greet newcomers, invite them to coffee hour and give new people a welcome bag. Within several weeks, new people are given homemade cookies and a loaf of bread, welcome brochures and a welcome note from clergy. Annually, we recognize new people on Recognition Sunday. Our goal is to enable people to make the leap from newcomer to belonging.
|
As a way of welcoming and sharing hospitality, light refreshments are served every Sunday following the 10:30am worship in the Rose Kneale Room. Various groups in the parish provide the “goodies” each week. The Hospitality Team spearheads this gathering and encourages others to participate. Vestry members make themselves available to answer questions informally about the happenings and events of the parish.
